LSI Logic's ZSP400 DSP Core Receives High Scores in EEMBC Benchmarks

ZSP400(TM) EEMBC Scores Indicate High Performance With Best-In-Class Code Density, Demonstrating Optimized Cost Performance Solution

MILPITAS, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI - news) today announced it received exceptional EEMBC (Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium) scores for its highly successful ZSP400(TM) superscalar digital signal processor (DSP) for embedded telecom applications.

LSI Logic's ZSP400 16-bit dual-MAC DSP core exhibited performance comparable to larger 32-bit DSPs, while providing dramatically better code density for an overall system cost advantage. Code density is an important design criterion in the selection of embedded processors since memory size directly drives system cost that is critical in high-volume applications.

According to the data, the ZSP400's average code density ranked number one in the EEMBC telecom benchmarks (Telemark), in part due to its superscalar architecture. The ZSP400 architectural attributes combine to provide system designers with an optimal mix of performance, code density, and ease of programming.

"It is gratifying to see LSI Logic among the industry leaders that are making validated performance information about their processors available to the public, and particularly since the ZSP400 is the first superscalar DSP to receive certified scores from the EEMBC Certification Labs," said Markus Levy, EEMBC president. "In publishing both out-of-the-box and optimized benchmark scores, these certified results will enable LSI Logic to show its customers the full value of the ZSP400 processor."

EEMBC benchmark scores are certified by the EEMBC Certification Labs (ECL) and based on real-world applications that enable engineers to compare processors on a level playing field. The entire list of results can be viewed at the EEMBC website at: http://www.eembc.org .

"LSI Logic applauds the commitment of EEMBC to provide fair and accurate standards for the embedded community," said Tuan Dao, vice president of LSI Logic's DSP Products Division. "We are particularly pleased that LSI Logic's ZSP400 DSP scored so well. The real-world nature of these benchmarks clearly indicates how this architecture will provide our customers with a capable and extremely cost-effective solution."

LSI Logic's ZSP superscalar signal processing technology provides the highest performance open architecture DSP cores available today. These licensable and fully synthesizable cores have proven themselves in ASICs and standard products alike. Following on the heels of the pioneer ZSP400 core, LSI Logic has introduced its second generation ZSP600(TM) architecture that is optimized with respect to code density, compiler performance and ease of programming. ZSP technology is supported by the standardized ZOpen? application development framework and a growing list of software Solution Partners. EEMBC is comprised of over 50 of the world's leading and most influential semiconductor and intellectual property companies. EEMBC members are committed to helping customers get product easier and faster through fair benchmarking and establishment of industry standards. Benchmarking fairness is provided through the EEMBC Certification Labs with offices in Texas and California. Benchmarking results are posted on the EEMBC website at www.eembc.org.
